We have seen the Italian presence grow in the field of hybridisation of the iris with great satisfaction over recent years.
It appears useful, for this reason, to state some rules followed by all the hybridisers of iris in the world, for those who do not know them.
Those who have a new variety of iris are obliged to register it with the American Iris Society, (A.I.S.) which, by past agreement is the depository of the International Register of the varieties of Iris.
The registration, as well as being a justifiable credit to the hybridiser (a sort of patent of the new variety) guarantees the exclusivity of the name of the new plant.
The application for registration can be sent through our Society. Ask Prof. P. Gambassini, c/o the Secretary of the Italian Iris Society, for the form to fill in and send it back to our address with the sum of € 6,00 for every new hybrid.
The registration is indispensable if the variety has participated in the International Iris Competition in Florence and it has been placed among the first ten.
Furthermore, for those who are interested in participating for foreign prizes, for example in the USA, the further condition to conform to is the introduction, that is the offering for sale to the public of the new hybrid.
It is necessary to demonstrate the offering for sale with the presence of the new variety in a commercial catalogue
Our Society, with the intention of giving a service to the Italian hybridisers of the Iris, will send the forms and registration expenses to the A.I.S., with the proof of introduction and whatever else helps in the promotion of the new variety.
Our members are invited to conform to these rules and to inform non-members whenever possible.
